 Abstract

Companies typically lose productivity and effort because of their IT system being inefficient or not adapted to the REAL business process. As a consequence, companies want to get increased control over their IT systems fit them to their business needs. Workflow is computerized facilitation or automation of a business process, in whole or part. The JWT for ECLIPSE project aims to provide both build-time and runtime tools for workflow engines. It will be composed as a client / server model with 2 major capabilities, WE (Workflow Editor) and WAM Server (Workflow engine Administration and Monitoring Server). These tools allow a company to simply define its business processes and map the different activities of the processes to existing technical services or applications.

 Project Scope

The overall objective of this project is to build an extensible framework for open source java community which will provide easier development tools for business automation using workflow technology. The framework consist of two main components.

Workflow Toolkit Client Module

Workflow Editor >  WE will be a tool for Process Definition modeling. The final output of this process modeling phase is a XML file, which can be interpreted at runtime by any workflow engine compliant with the XML format of the process definition.

Repository Management > The repository management helps workflow developer to upload packages to WAM Server, Download Workflow Packages to Local Repository from WAM Server.

Workflow Toolkit Server Module

Workflow Engine >   A process definition can be loaded to this engine and instantiated in the engine. The graphical workflow representation will be used to show the state of execution of the instantiated process.

Workflow Engine Administration and Monitoring Tools >

Package Manager The package management displays all packages that are loaded into engine.
Process Instantiation Manager: Process Instantiation Manager provide interface to initiate process that can be initiated by logged in user.
Process Monitor: Lets you manage process instances and view running pending and active process or activities.
User Manager: Lets you manage System Users who can log on to WAM server and can play some role in workflow activities.
